Sometimes, when you are sending electronic messages over the Web, you would rather not leave a record behind. Truly private messaging can eliminate spam and viruses, and reduce the costs associated with storing archived messages.
Void Communications decided that it was time to create a system that enables messages to be sent without leaving any record behind. The result: VaporStream, a patent-pending product being unveiled this week at the DEMOfall conference in San Diego.
In a press release, Void describes VaporStream as “the first and only stream messaging system that enables users to send completely private and confidential electronic messages that never create or leave a record.”
Void’s CEO and co-founder, Joe Collins, notes that, although e-mail and instant messaging (IM) have become very popular, “these powerful systems have one major flaw—no one message is ever truly secure or confidential. VaporStream eliminates privacy and confidentiality concerns by ensuring that messages never create a record and a user's personal thoughts are only shared with the intended recipient.”
In explaining the benefits of VaporStream, Void cited research from Radicati Group, which estimates that more than 50 percent of corporate e-mail is non-business related. VaporStream helps employees and companies alike by providing a private way to send messages, and cutting down on the amount of non-business e-mail handled by and stored on corporate e-mail systems.
“With companies seeing e-mail usage grow at exponential rates, there is a definite need for new technologies to help curb rising e-mail management and archiving costs,” commented Osterman Research founder Michael Osterman, in a statement.
Osterman continued: “Where a record of communications is not required, VaporStream stream messaging provides organizations with a unique recordless communications system that has the potential to reduce the number of e-mails currently being sent and stored daily in the corporate e-mail system.”
The key advantages of VaporStream are summarized in the list below.
Recordless – no record remain on any computer or server
Private – the ability to send confidential messages fosters creativity and open discussions
Spam and virus free – messages are sent and received using a protected system
Mobile support – enables users to send and receive messages using mobile devices
Ease of use – simple interface managers each user’s personal network
In addition to these advantages, VaporStream also is designed to meet the specific needs of enterprises and educational organizations. One feature of VaporStream Enterprise, for example, is a management system allowing user lists to be bulk loaded.
Void also has partnered with ePolicy Institute to develop best-practices guidelines and training for defining and managing business records.
Nancy Flynn, founder of ePolicy Institute, said that “VaporStream will reinforce the need for organizations to formally define electronic business records, implement comprehensive employee training, and establish written policies governing the use, content, and retention of workplace e-mail.”
Flynn added: “The effective management of e-mail (business records and recordless communication alike) will help reduce the potentially costly risks inherent in workplace e-mail while helping to safeguard confidential and non-business-related communications.”
VaporStream is available now; pricing starts at $39.99 per year for a single user. Mobile devices can be added to subscriptions for $5.00 per user.
