KVH Co. Ltd., is deploying an IP-based, next generation network from Nortel to support future expansion of communication services such as hosted IP voice, unified messaging and collaboration services.
By upgrading its existing optical network infrastructure to a next generation IP network, KVH can address the needs of enterprise customers seeking more IP-based value added services. The migration will also enable the company to expand sales and improve efficiency.
Since the new network is designed as a single integrated platform, it will simplify operations and provide expanded communications services. These services can be used by many types of terminals running several applications.
In addition to using Nortel ( News - Alert) Communication Server 2000-Compact, KVH will also deploy Nortel’s Universal Signaling Point, the signaling gateway between circuit-switched and IP networks, and the Media Gateway ( News - Alert) 15000. The solution will deliver toll-quality voice and global VoIP applications on a carrier-grade, multiservice data platform.
“Upgrading our voice network is the first step towards a full transition to IP,” said Rakesh Bhasin, chairman, president and CEO, KVH in a press release.
He continued: “Our customers’ needs for highly flexible and value added services have been growing, and to meet those needs comprehensively we decided to migrate to a next generation IP-based network.”
The telecommunications and Internet services provider is reportedly trialing Nortel’s 4G technology as it prepares to launch a mobile WiMAX service in Moscow.
Established in Tokyo in 1999, KVH provides business communication and managed IT services in the Asia Pacific region.
The company will use the Nortel’s technology to address the growing demand from its private and corporate customers for wireless Internet access and mobile communications services such as VoIP, email and multimedia applications.
