Avaya (
News -
Alert) Inc. has introduced its new third-generation directory enabled management (DEM) interface that intelligently connects enterprise business applications with IP

telephony software, messaging systems and media servers.
Companies can use Avaya DEM to easily link communication systems with business applications and drive new operating efficiencies and cost-savings throughout an organization.
Based on business logic, communications resources can be configured and controlled dynamically in brand new ways with DEM. Avaya DEM capabilities can be incorporated into companies’ operations by writing their own custom applications, by turning to the Avaya Professional Services team for development support, or by using a member of the Avaya DeveloperConnection program.
Micky Tsui, vice president and general manager, communications systems division, Avaya believes that businesses can use communications as a strategic business tool and unleash powerful new capabilities that build bottom-line value by using Avaya DEM to integrate sophisticated directory tools into their enterprise.
“For example, an administrator for a large corporate network might save time and dramatically reduce costs by using DEM to make system-wide changes to multiple communication switches – quickly and automatically,” explained Tsui in a
press release.
Since DEM supports standards-based application programming interfaces (APIs), it makes it easy to integrate communications with popular off-the-shelf Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP

) server software.
Avaya adds support for Avaya Modular Messaging, a standards-based IP voice and fax messaging platform with the new 3.1 release of DEM.
Avaya DEM 3.1 also improves both security and scalability. Additionally, DEM’s capacity is doubled to support up to 50 communication systems with a single software release. This reduces hardware needs and reduces costs.
In another news, Altura Communication Solutions, a provider of enterprise network services and solutions and a Platinum-certified Avaya BusinessPartner, announced that Saint Joseph Mercy Health System (SJMHS) in Ann Arbor, Mich., selected Altura to design and implement an Avaya IP Telephony network.
Altura’s new network will enhance patient care, create operational efficiencies and reduce costs.
Avaya Inc, is a global provider of business communications applications, systems and services.
