Internap Enhances CDN

Internap, an Internet solutions company, has upgraded its Content Delivery Network with new enhancements such as new ease-of-use functions and automation of key CDN capabilities for high quality video streaming.

These new improvements will help the company to offer an intelligent video streaming solution for simplifying and automating content creation, management and reporting with the highest quality end user experience and they will be exclusively offered via Internap’s (News - Alert) Performance IP service.

Recent estimates have indicated that more than 80 percent of the U.S. Internet audiences now watch online video and to reach this rising number of online video consumers more organizations are looking for adopting video CDNs as part of their marketing strategy and business operations. But in order to deploy a CDN on their own they have to spend a lot and to sort out the complexities associated with delivering high-quality content across an increasingly diverse device landscape of PCs, netbooks and mobile phones they also have to deploy the right type of infrastructure. The CDNs should also be capable of overcoming issues of network latency, congestion and downtime.

Internap has claimed that their CDN is capable of addressing these challenges with a fully-integrated solution for live and on-demand video streaming – with the Adobe Flash Platform, Microsoft Silverlight and iPhone (News - Alert) formats – that allows organizations to focus exclusively on content creation by simplifying and streamlining the workflow for content uploading, transcoding, management and reporting.

With Internap, clients get a world-class, global CDN and also have access to the most comprehensive suite of solutions available today, including streaming audio and video, managed servers and storage, data center colocation, transcoding, player development, digital asset management and monetization tools.

Through these enhancements Internap claims that they are offering their customers efficient means to maximize the consuming audience by addressing the broadest range of devices across the Internet.

The new ease-of-use features within Internap’s CDN MediaConsole 5.0 CDN include: integrated, rule-based transcoding – removes the need for additional management and development costs to enable conversion of video into the ideal formats for a broad range of devices; integrated adaptive bitrate – continuous bitrate adjustment dynamically adapts video streams based on the capabilities and bandwidth of the network; and advanced analytics and reporting – enables video campaign refinement.

Peter Evans, senior vice president of marketing at Internap, has said that video is the single most immersive, engaging and effective form of electronic communication, but the cost and complexity associated with high-quality delivery has held it back from being even more widely used on the Web. Their new CDN enhancements address this issue by automating the entire process from video creation to management to delivery, and then delivering superior performance with the industry’s only route-optimized CDN for video quality that users can see. This finally frees enterprises to focus on delivering valuable content to drive their business and not worry about the technology behind managing and distributing it.

In related news, Internap had set larger strategy to power Internet-based applications and Weiss Research opted for Internap Studio to manage video content.
