Metalogix Software has reportedly announced the introduction its latest offering, the “Metalogix Universal SharePoint Manager version 2007,” which provides customers with management, migration, restoration, and archiving features that assist system administrators to significantly reduce SharePoint related workload and timeframes.
Officials at Metalogix claim that the company’s newest solution has a feature based framework with an array of management tools for environments, sites, users and security, and it helps the concerned IT staff to automate time consuming daily SharePoint management tasks from a single, common console.
"SharePoint administrators need powerful management tools to optimize the efficiency, usability and performance of their SharePoint environments," said Chris Risley, chief executive officer of Metalogix. "Metalogix USPM is the first product to give admins the truly unique features they need to make the daily management of their SharePoint environments both fast and easy."
SharePoint brings together Window’s business essential tools such as Microsoft (News - Alert) Office that deliver efficient communications within an organization. All employees and authorized users are brought on a single platform irrespective of their physical location. They simply require internet connectivity to reach to each other and access non-repetitive resource sensitive information.
SharePoint solutions are designed to accommodate website hosting that leverage shared documents and workspaces. Microsoft’s marketing punch line allegedly is “Collaboration, Processes and People.” Its architecture is based on ASP.NET (News - Alert) 2.0 applications that enable software engineers to create dynamic web sites and services.
Metalogix officials claim their company’s offering does not require third party apps or add-ons, and enables IT staff to: look into key problem areas; review permissions from user, role, item, and system viewpoints, locate and remove unused or dead accounts, irrespective of the language of origin, identify ‘orphaned’ SharePoint sites, monitor growth and detect trends in SharePoint locations through live, real-time reporting; take a ‘snapshot’ of permissions and replicate them and rapidly differentiate and filter out security parameters quickly with stop light icons.
Officials said it is offering Metalogix USPM v2007 through an exclusive worldwide licensing agreement with privately held iDevFactory, which is a developer of innovative software for managing and administering Microsoft Information Worker technologies. The agreement means that Metalogix will also handle sales, marketing, and support to all customers, including past IDevFactory customers.
"We've integrated USPM's unique feature set into the Metalogix product suite so SharePoint administrators get 'one-stop shopping' for all this great functionality," said Ethan Bertsch, founder and chief technical officer of iDevFactory.
In terms of products comparative with SharePoint, another company reportedly introduced, in January this year, its Web hosted, Java based, open source, multi-platform, and collaborative documentation server. Product wise is in the same user segment as Microsoft’s SharePoint and Google Docs, is available in both paid and free versions.
The product is designed such that it allows the server message block developers and decision makers the freedom to choose, select and utilise from a wide range of open source, standards based documentation automated tools based on the type of platform available to work with. And all this is achieved without the constraints attached to similar vendor exclusive, Web hosted applications. SMB’s are used to establish shared access to files and serial port add-on devices and allow interaction between network nodes.
